On August 24, 2025, a solemn celebration of the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence took place in Baku. The Embassy of Ukraine in Azerbaijan, together with the Ukrainian community, friends, and partners, gathered at the monument to Taras Shevchenko to honor the Great Kobzar and all those who fought for the freedom of our state and who defend us today.
The ceremony began with the national anthems of Ukraine and Azerbaijan. Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev and Chairman of the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Yuriy Kisiel delivered welcome remarks. Leaders of Ukrainian communities and organizations in Azerbaijan also gave speeches. The participants honored with a moment of silence the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine. During the event, active community members and friends of Ukraine in Azerbaijan received state awards, distinctions of the Verkhovna Rada Committee, and Letters of Appreciation from the Embassy.
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, a Holy Mass was held at the Parish of St. John Paul II of the Roman Catholic Church in Baku, praying for peace in Ukraine and the well-being of the Ukrainian people.
At the Ukrainian Center in Baku, the community attended a screening of the documentary “People of Steel” by director Sergiy Fomenko, which tells the story of the resilience of Ukrainians during wartime.
On this special day, the Embassy of Ukraine in Azerbaijan congratulates all Ukrainians, our community in Azerbaijan, and all friends and partners of Ukraine on Independence Day! We wish for a just peace and prosperity for our country, and for all Ukrainians – good health, success, and well-being!
Glory to Ukraine!
