On that day, terrorists attacked the United States. The World Trade Center towers in New York were destroyed, the Pentagon was struck, while the passengers of the fourth plane, at the cost of their own lives, prevented the terrorists from carrying out their plan. Nearly 3,000 innocent people were killed.
During his working visit to the Karabakh region, Ambassador of Ukraine Yuriy Husyev met with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires a.i. in the Republic of Azerbaijan Amy Carlon and expressed his solidarity: “On this day, we stand together in honoring the memory of the victims of terrorism and paying tribute to the courage of those who risked their own lives to save others.”
For Ukraine, this date has a special resonance. For twelve and a half years, the Ukrainian people have been confronting Russia’s terrorist aggression every day, including four and a half years of full-scale war — with missile and drone attacks targeting cities, residential buildings, hospitals, schools and critical infrastructure.
Terrorism has no justification, regardless of where or by whom it is committed. Combating terrorism, protecting human life and defending the freedom and right of peoples to live in their own sovereign states are a shared responsibility of the civilized world.
Ambassador Yuriy Husyev also expressed gratitude to the United States for its support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in their fight against Russian aggression, for assistance in defending our country, and for its steadfast support for our right to freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
We remember the victims of September 11.
We remember all innocent victims of terrorism.
And we continue our shared struggle for a world where terror cannot be used as a tool to achieve political goals, and where freedom, human dignity and peace are protected.
Eternal memory to all those who lost their lives.
