On the eve of this date, the Embassy team, led by Ambassador of Ukraine Yuriy Husyev, together with Chornobyl liquidators and the Ukrainian community in Azerbaijan, honored the memory of the victims of this tragedy.

A flower-laying ceremony took place at the Alley of Honor in Baku at the grave of Heydar Aliyev, who played an important role in addressing the consequences of the disaster during its first difficult weeks. Ukrainian diplomats, together with the liquidators, also paid tribute to the Heroes by laying flowers at the renovated memorial to the Chornobyl disaster liquidators in the city of Goranboy.

We bow our heads and express our sincere gratitude to all the liquidators of that terrible tragedy, and we also recognize the special contribution of Azerbaijan to overcoming the consequences of the Chornobyl accident: more than 8,000 Azerbaijani specialists took part in the response efforts, demonstrating courage, self-sacrifice, and solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
