As part of the visit, Denys Shmyhal, together with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husyev, paid tribute to the memory of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and the distinguished ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
The Ukrainian delegation also laid flowers at the Alley of Martyrs, honoring those who fought for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Special tribute was paid to the Ukrainian pilot Viktor Seryogin, who tragically lost his life in 1992 and was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
“Ukraine and Azerbaijan are nations that know well the value of freedom, independence, and the right to determine their own future. Ukrainians understand all too well what it means to live with the pain of war every day and to lose the best sons and daughters who fight for their land and freedom,” said Denys Shmyhal.
“We are sincerely grateful to the leadership and people of Azerbaijan for their solidarity with and support for Ukraine during one of the most difficult periods in our history,” emphasized Ambassador of Ukraine Yuriy Husyev.
