On October 1, on the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Embassy of Ukraine in Azerbaijan hosted solemn events dedicated to the 34th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence and the Day of Defenders of Ukraine. It was a day of unity, remembrance, and gratitude.
Prayers were offered for Ukrainian soldiers, for the people of Ukraine, and for the eternal rest of the fallen Heroes. The team of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Azerbaijan, together with the Ukrainian community and the defenders of Mariupol released from captivity—who came to Azerbaijan at the invitation of Ambassador of Ukraine Yuriy Husyev for rehabilitation and recovery—honored the fallen Heroes and laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance for Azerbaijani warriors who gave their lives defending Ukraine.
In the evening, a solemn charity reception took place in Baku, bringing together government officials, diplomats, defense attachés from partner countries, representatives of civil society organizations, cultural centers, and friends of Ukraine. In his address, Ambassador Yuriy Husyev emphasized that this day is a symbol of gratitude to our Hero-defenders, international partners, and all those who support and assist Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and independence.

A touching moment of the evening was the commemoration of the Heroes: Elmira Mammadova, the mother of a Ukrainian soldier of Azerbaijani origin who was killed defending Ukraine, was invited to the stage.
This day will forever remain a symbol of mutual support, sincere friendship, and gratitude to all who fight for freedom and peace. We thank Azerbaijan and all our partners for their support!
