The supply agreement was concluded between NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine” (Naftogaz Group) and SOCAR Energy Ukraine, a subsidiary of the Azerbaijani state oil and gas corporation SOCAR.

The agreement is a practical implementation of the directives and arrangements reached during meetings between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as well as this year’s visit of Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha to Baku and the recent session of the Ukraine-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation at the level of the energy ministers of Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

The Trans-Balkan route is strategic in terms of energy independence and security in Europe and provides Ukraine access to new sources: liquefied natural gas (LNG) from terminals in Turkey and Greece, Azerbaijani gas through the TAP pipeline, and potential resources from the Black Sea shelves of Romania and Bulgaria.

“Although current supply volumes are small, this has strategic significance as it opens prospects for long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries. Moreover, it is another clear example of successful diversification of energy supply sources — a crucial factor for reliable preparation and stable passage of the heating season,” emphasized Ukraine’s Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk.

Ukraine’s Ambassador Yuriy Husiev noted that this event is important in a strategic context: it opens a new direction of bilateral energy cooperation and strengthens the foundation for long-term partnership between Ukraine and Azerbaijan. He sincerely thanked the President of Ukraine, Azerbaijani partners, and the teams of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine,” and personally Ministers Andriy Sybiha, German Galushchenko, Svitlana Hrynchuk, Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretskyi, and everyone who supports and helps.
