Within the framework of the Davos World Economic Forum President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met with leaders from different countries and companies.
From this point of view Davos Economic Forum is significant for President Ilham Aliyev. Because, within a few days President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met a number of leaders to discuss cooperation issues and current problems. Those country leader and Company CEO meet with President Ilham Aliyev who want to discuss specific development perspectives with Azerbaijan.
For instance, leader of Iraqi Kurds Masoud Barzani was also among foreign
officials who met with President Ilham Aliyev within the framework of the Davos World Economic Forum. Azerbaijan is cooperating with central power of Iraq.
Regardless of this, recently cooperation capabilities have been broadened between Azerbaijani Government and Northern Iraq. Baghdad does not oppose such contacts.
Like Azerbaijan Northern Iraq possesses abundant hydrocarbon resources. And world energy giants possess Production Sharing Agreements (PSAs) in the Northern Iraq to develop oil and gas fields. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), too, can take an interest in these hydrocarbon resources developed in the Northern Iraq.
In the same way Masoud Barzani, too, is intersted in investments made by SOCAR. In particular, recently the number of tourists who travelled to Azerbaijan from Northern Iraq has increased, too. Direct flights between Baku and Arbil are being implemented.
Ultimately, there are numerous topics to be discussed between President Ilham Aliyev and Iraqi Kurds Leader Masoud Barzani.
Moreover, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s meeting with his Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and making of exchange of views with him can be considered as remarkable meeting within the framework of the Davos World Economic Forum. In that meeting Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has voiced two significant remarks. In the first remarks President Poroshenko has noted that Ukraine will never recognize Yerevan-backed ethnic Armenian separatists regime in Nagorno-Karabakh. In his second sentence regarding Nagorno-Karabakh Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has noted: “I would like explicitly to emphasize that Ukraine does not approve relevant certification of Nagorno-Karabakh documents and will not approve in future and we applaud Azerbaijan’s analogical stance towards Crimea.”
Such remarks voiced by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko every time is
essential. Usually heads of states’ voice summarized remarks on territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. But there are in a less a degree countries leaders who voices “we do not approve separatism in Nagorno-Karabakh.” Namely, Petro Poroshenko is one of the leaders who does not approve separatism in Nagorno-Karabakh. The main reason for this is that as Poroshenko says Azerbaijan, too, takes analogical stance towards Crimea.
For instance, Azerbaijan has closed relations with Georgia than Ukraine. The
Azerbaijani Government has been implementing grand investment projects in Georgia.
At the same time, Georgian officials usually do not express such remarks like “we condemn separatism in Nagorno-Karabakh, it is inadmissible.” But Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko does not take balanced stance to voice such remarks: “Armenia could be offended by Kyiv’s remarks.” It is worth mentioning that yet, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has visited only Azerbaijan from Southern Caucasus nations.
Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko has also not forgotten Armenia’s abstaining from voting for resolution indicating Crimea as territorial integrity part of Ukraine within the framework of the voting process held in United Nations Organization.
Western nations as well as United States of America and European Union amid condemning annexation of Crimea, they do not take the same stance towards resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. United States, European Union and western nations do not apply sanctions against aggressor Armenia. On the contrary, western nations as well as United States, European Union are cooperating with aggressor Armenia. This is double-standard policy. The western nations justly are applying sanctions against Russia amid they affably behave with Armenia. However, there is no difference between Armenia which invaded Nagorno-Karabakh and its adjacent territories and Russia which annexed Crimea.
Regardless of this, Poroshenko’s explicitly upholding Azerbaijan at the Davos World Economic Forum is essential from that point of view that the West prioritizes security of Ukraine in the region. And all remarks voiced by President Petro Poroshenko is scrutinized by western leaders. Therefore Poroshenko’s remarks related to Nagorno-Karabakh at Davos World Economic Forum in addition to Armenia is a message to the West that sensitive attitude must be taken towards territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
On the other hand, at his last press conference held on January 17 Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has explicitly backed up position of Armenia. By supporting Armenia Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has unsettled Azerbaijani society and official Baku. In general, once again it is turned out from words of Sergey Lavrov that Moscow is not interested in justly resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. In that event official Baku is forced to deliver a message to the Kremlin that Azerbaijan has sufficient strategic partners that in contrast with Moscow to support Azerbaijan to conduct antiterrorism operations in Nagorno-Karabakh. And Ukraine is one of reliable strategic partner nations.
